Toy Maker - POEM of the MONTH!

Toy Maker

Toy Maker! Oh, Toy Maker!
Why did you create me –
Create me the way you did?
For I can reason with all I see!

At first look, it’s obvious:
I am missing my strings,
And I cannot reach the sky;
But, my mind has wings!

I have a heart made of wood
And dreams which float
From here to there, and ev’ry
Which way I turn to gloat.

I can boast of all I do,
Because I am a taker!
I may walk wherever I want,
All, without the Toy Maker.

A seemingly innocent walk;
Yet, I am aware of the source
Of the wind shifting from here
To there, all with gentle force.

It’s apparent I have a back,
Many times it’s facing you;
And I have a dynamic voice,
As if this solely gives me value.

Toy Maker! Oh, my Toy Maker!
Why do I have this knowledge?
Because what puzzles me most
Is, I am carved in your image!

The Novelty of i - POEM of the MONTH!

The Novelty of i

The novelty of i
The latest smart phone
Absent of why
Just follow the drone

The novelty of reason
Without reply
What’s still in season?
The novelty of i

i am the app
 Consolation
i am the map
 Destination

Text of interest
i may respond
i am the loudest
“Like” to correspond

i am the Like
 Emotion
i am the psyche
 Devotion

i am the spotlight
 Conversation
i am the limelight
 Celebration

The novelty of i
 Promenade –
Receipt of a sigh
 Masquerade

The stage of sound
The novelty of sky –
The ceiling of ground
The novelty of i?

The novelty of i!
The novelty of – i
The novelty – of – i
The – novelty – of – i

The soundboard
Into a lone echo
Unexplored –
The novelty is hollow

Absolute ironclad
A fool to vilify
i am my own fad
The novelty of I

Epilogue

Sounds of new
Thoughts from you
Grasping two
And then a few …

Escape - POEM of the WEEK!

Escape

In the event of fire
Break glass
Make a wish and
Close your eyes,
Kissing your lover
The fervent way to
Maximizing
The moment –
Escape

(Now, read it from bottom to top
and feel a different meaning.)

"Imaginarium" Published in Synchronized Chaos Magazine

The poem, "Imaginarium", which was written five years ago, is now published in Synchronized Chaos Magazine! Here's what the editor had to say about this piece, "... in a highly structured, formal and intellectual piece [Dave Douglas], rejoices in the adventure of following the imagination."

Inverted (Deception and Truth -- or "Death and Life") - POEM of the MONTH!

Inverted (Deception and Truth -- or "Death and Life")

Artist: Dave Douglas (After effects of the Liberty Fire, Alpine County, CA)
Today is the day of salvation!
But -- you tell me nonetheless that
I am not worthy,
For deep within my heart
You find the darkest secrets.
I think I'm a good person,
Even though ...
Then you tell me that is enough!
What you did for me,
I can't believe
All the little lies;
And look at what I did with
The only life I have,
Yes, this is it --
Yet it's not what I had in mind,
Since the very beginning
Always giving
What may hurt me,
On directing me away from
What truly matters,
This is what you showed me

(Now read it from bottom to top,
and realize who holds the truth.)

The Bullet - POEM of the MONTH!

The Bullet

In short-sighted cities
Along their boulevards
With defenses down
Behind glasses barred

The windows are broken
In neighborhoods ignored
But even among the tower
There are horrors unexplored

On a chosen Wednesday
In what seems random
Far from the northern shores
In an office of printed freedom

I penetrate skin
Rip through flesh
Break bone --
And, end existence

Screaming across the lobby
The scent of powder in the air
Screams from the innocents
The scent of hatred as a prayer

In the City of Lights
As throughout many
There are less shining
And more to be angry

It is not my choice
When I carry all your fears
It seems my only path
Since those beginning years

I penetrate skin
Rip through flesh
Break bone --
And, end existence ...

So, until you end my own
From palaces, to deserts and dives
Like the one who shot Liberty Valance
I am capable of saving lives

~

In this poem "The Bullet", the "I" and "my" are the personification of the bullet; and the "your" represent the people living in cities, towns, states and countries. (This poem is partially inspired by Neil Peart's Distant Early Warning. In Distant Early Warning the "I" is the personification of an ICBM missile flying over the polar ice-caps, and the "you" is the people of the world.)

Absent (a free-verse pantoum) - POEM of the MONTH!

Absent (a free-verse pantoum)

A hole tore into my chest;
I am numb to my surroundings.
It took residence as one left mine
And I stare into the empty silence.

I am numb to my surroundings,
You were taken from my residence
And I stare into the empty silence
As you create a sound in my mind.

You were taken from my residence;
A blues song of memories remain
As you create a sound in my mind
And will play forever in my heart.

A blues song of memories remain
My shadow. Who brightened my day
And will play forever in my heart?
The one, I will see until then.

My shadow who brightened my day,
It took residence as you left mine,
The one I will see. Until then –
A hole tore into my chest …
