Life
Transformation
In late autumn the east wind howls
A recurring chant of the coming winter;
Death marked by fallen leaf, frozen rock,
As it bleeds over streets of alabaster.
What was once a blanket of stars
Falls to the earth in crystalline form;
What was once an age of darkness,
Light reveals all through the storm.
The moon reflects onto the rising tide,
A caterpillar tucks in for the night;
The wind shifts to a calming breeze,
As wings emerge absent
their own might.
In early spring the transformed is baptized,
Painted new colors for the coming season;
To thrive, to endure in the summer
As her life flutters in purposed direction.
